Attabad lake - A ticking bomb

Attabad Lake in Pakistan is a stunning result of a natural ...

Attabad lake is one of most beautiful lack in Pakistan. It is a well-known tourist attraction of northern areas. The lake emerges as a result of disaster which happened on 4th January, 2010 by the landsliding on Hunza river; slide blocked Hunza river and formed a beautiful lack. Most of the people were evacuated before the occurrence but 20 deaths were reported and about 5 villages destroyed.

Attabad lake now a day is the source of generating revenue from tourism and it is the source of bread and butter for families but for the government it is also a ticking bomb. The geological surveys and environmental reports says the it is a possibility that the way this lake formed by landslide it can again change its shape due to same reasons. It contains great amount of water from river of Hunza and also the water from melting glaciers so if the landslide again occur it will be a great disaster because more than 20 villages will be underwater and a great amount of Hunza population will be homeless. So this is the problem that should be highlighted at government level.

There is a huge chance that the disaster will occur then government should take mitigation planes on a very serious note. It is very necessary that the population should not be very condense around that area so government should disperse the population. Secondly the lake could serve as a natural dam and it can bring a lot of change in energy crises of Pakistan so government should secure the lake and lessen the chances of land sliding by creating retaining walls. Allotment of funds for the quick disaster management is very necessary for the future, but if the proper measurement are not taken then it will prove a ticking bomb.
